About NP Kay

Nkechi “Kay” Saleh, APRN (she/her) is an ANCC board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with a passion for providing mental health care. Throughout her life, family and friends have playfully teased her for getting caught up in conversations with strangers—whether in a parking lot, at the grocery store, or in an elevator. She is deeply grateful that she has been able to transform this innate gift for connecting with others into a fulfilling career.

Born and raised in Georgia, she was proud to attend the University of Georgia (go Dawgs!) and graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology, with a minor in Spanish in 2013.  She then went on to obtain a Master of Science in nursing with a psychiatric/mental health focus from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2016.

Kay has 8 years of experience providing mental health care in a diverse amount of settings including outpatient private practice, outpatient community mental health, residential care for at risk youth, and residential care for substance use disorders. She has experience caring for adolescents/teens between 12-18 years old as well as experience providing geriatric care to older adults as much as 92 years old. She has specialized interests caring for those with mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorders, anxiety disorders such as panic disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorders, trauma related disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorders and acute stress disorders, and psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder. She prides herself on staying up to date on the latest evidence based practices and practices from a trauma-informed perspective. She has experience treating diverse cultural backgrounds and also provides gender affirming care. She has an array of experience treating disorders across the neurodiversity spectrum including attention deficit disorders, autism spectrum disorder, and those with intellectual disabilities.

Kay recognizes that seeking mental health care usually can be daunting and it can be difficult to open up to someone for possibly the first time about very private struggles. This is why she makes her first priority getting to know who you are as a whole person at your own pace. Kay's personality is welcoming, warm, and inviting. Her approach is more relaxed and clients often comment that it is refreshing to have visits with a psychiatric provider that acts like a "real human being" in the clinical setting. Though always professional, she is not shy about sprinkling a corny joke in here and there too.

Outside of work, Kay enjoys street and portrait photography, failing at learning new dances, running, trying hot sauces, and watching terrible reality television.
